In-Year Admissions (applying for a school place during the academic year)
If you have recently moved locally and require a school place for your child, you can apply for an in- year primary school place. If you would like your child to transfer to another school for any reason, you should discuss this with the headteacher at your child’s current school. This is because a child’s education usually benefits most when they have continuity of teaching and learning in the same school. This also ensures that their present headteacher is fully aware of your reasons for wanting to transfer them and has the opportunity to discuss this with you.
Parents applying for their child to be educated outside their chronological year group
Parents seeking admission to an age group below their child’s actual age should submit their request with their application by the closing date of 15 January of the year when children of the actual same age are due to start school. Requests may be accompanied by professionally supported evidence to explain why their child should be considered to start school a year later than other children of their age. Each request and supporting evidence will be carefully considered and any educational, social and developmental reasons will be taken into account to arrive at a decision. Applying by the age appropriate deadlines will mean that in the event the request is refused, the applicant will still be considered for a place in their correct age group.
You have a legal right to appeal against a decision not to offer your child a place.
Please refer to the School Admissions Arrangements for guidance, at the bottom of this page.
A limited number of additional (government funded/self-funded) sessions beyond the 15 hour universal nursery entitlement are available for your child to attend. These sessions take place within the Nursery environment.
