At Knollmead, we believe that learning about history helps children understand the world they live in. Our curriculum is designed to give pupils a clear and meaningful understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We want children to be curious about the past and excited to discover how events, people and ideas have shaped life today.

Children learn about significant historical events, people and places, both in Britain and beyond. Our curriculum is carefully planned so that knowledge and skills build over time. This helps children make links between different periods, understand cause and effect, and think about how history is interpreted in different ways. Through lively and engaging lessons, pupils are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, think critically, use evidence and come to their own conclusions.

As part of our wider Cultural Capital Curriculum, we provide enriching opportunities to bring history to life, such as trips to museums and historical sites, drama workshops, and special themed days. These experiences deepen children’s understanding and help them develop a strong sense of identity and heritage, both within our local community and the wider world.

Above all, we want our pupils to leave Knollmead with a broad understanding of the past, a respect for different cultures and perspectives, and the skills to think for themselves about the world around them.
